江苏省泰州中学始于1902年在宋代著名教育家胡瑗讲学旧址上创立的泰州学堂,是一所历史悠久、文化底蕴深厚、具有优良办学传统的百年名校，是中国百所知名中学之一。学校先后被评为省属重点中学、国家级示范高中、省四星级高中。1999年建成的新校区占地226亩，建筑面积7万平方米，校园环境优雅，办学条件一流，拥有多媒体教室、电子阅览室、闭路电视、校园网、体育馆、游泳馆、影剧院、400米塑胶跑道田径场和高标准学生公寓等设施。学校先后获得了全国文明单位、全国精神文明建设工作先进单位、全国教育系统先进集体、全国体育卫生先进单位、江苏省文明单位标兵、江苏省模范学校、江苏省园林式单位等四十多个荣誉称号。
学校现有59个班级，在校学生3200余人，教职工272人，其中特级教师9人，享受国务院特殊津贴1人，全国人大代表1人，获苏步青数学教育奖1人，教授级教师2人，全国优秀教育工作者、全国教育系统劳动模范2人，省级有突出贡献中青年专家、江苏省名教师4人，泰州市名教师、泰州市学科带头人、十佳青年教师10人，中学高级教师120人，具有研究生学历的教师28人，在读博士、硕士研究生12人，常年聘请外籍教师5人。经教育部立项、由著名特级教师洪宗礼先生主编的苏教版初中语文实验教材，目前已在全国26个省市累计发行1.3亿余册，由他主持的“江苏母语课程教材研究所”系省教育厅特批的普教界两个专业研究所之一。

近几年来，学校确立了“明理达用”的校训、“倡导负责任的教育”的办学理念、“领袖风范、领军人物”的育人目标，彰显“精品化、多元化、现代化”的办学特色，大力加强教育教学管理与创新，教育教学质量和学校美誉度不断提升，高考成绩在省市一直居于前列，每年有一大批优秀学子录取清华大学、北京大学、中国人民大学、复旦大学、南京大学、香港大学、新加坡国立大学、墨尔本大学等知名高校，2007年张子扬同学成为泰州教育史上获得国际奥林匹克学科竞赛金奖“第一人”。在扩大国际交流方面，先后接待了来自美国、澳大利亚、日本、韩国、英国、芬兰等国家的代表团，并与澳大利亚特拉蕾根中学结为友好学校，常年进行师生互访活动，学校已接受了30多名韩国留学生。

Brief Introduction to Taizhou High School
Founded as Taizhou School in 1902 – and set up by the famous educationalist Mr. Hu Yuan in the Song Dynasty at the former site of “An Ding Academy” – Taizhou High School, a member of one hundred well-known National High Schools, enjoys a long history, rich cultural foundations and strong traditions. It has been successively evaluated as a Provincial Key High School, a National Level Demonstrative High School and a Provincial Four-star Level High School.
The new campus, built in 1999, covers an area of 226 acres, of which there is a building area of 70,000 square meters. The whole campus is very beautiful and tastefully laid out. The school education teaching facilities are all in readiness, complete with first-rate multi-media teaching facilities, such as electronic reading rooms; cable TV; campus- web; a gymnasium; a swimming pool; theatre; a 400-metre plastic playground and high-standard dormitories – to name but a few.

There are now 59 classes with more than 3,200 students in the school and 272 teachers and staff members, including: 9 teachers of honorable special grade; one enjoying the special subsidy of State Department; one deputy to the National People’s Congress; one who has attained the Su Buqing Prize of Math in education; 2 teachers of Professor’s grade; 2 having been chosen as model and excellent teachers by the National Educational Administrative Departments; 4 experts who have made great contributions to the province; 10 teachers who are the leaders of their subject in Taizhou; 120 senior teachers; and nearly 40 teachers with Master’s Degrees plus one studying for his Doctorate. The school has introduced 5 foreign teachers to teach English regularly.
Mr. Hong Zongli, Vice Headmaster of the school and an expert in education, has edited a Chinese language textbook for Junior Middle School students. At present, the textbook has already had over 1.3 billion copies published throughout 26 provinces across the county. “Jiangsu Native Language teaching Material Institute”,hosted by Mr. Hong Zongli is one of the only two professional institutes specially permitted by Jiangsu Education Department.
In the practice of running the school, we stick to the target of educating outstanding students and running a renowned first-rate school. Our school has creatively developed under the school motto of being “United, Enterprising, Elegant and Realistic”. Teachers and students have cultivated what we call the ‘Taizhong Spirit’: “Be curious to learn, be good at thinking and be able to use knowledge.” The teaching spirit is one of devotion, hard-work and to bring forth new ideas.
Ever since its foundation, Taizhou High School has provided the CPC and our nation with large numbers of cadres and technical personnel. Mr. Hu Jintao, President of People’s Republic of China; six academicians from the China National Science Academy and the China National Engineering Academy – including Mr. Li Deren, Mr.Tong Kai, Mr. Hou Deyuan, Mr. Zhi Bingyi and Mr. Xia Daoxing; famous enterpreneurs Mr. Tao Jianxing and Mr. Lu Haiming; actor Mr. Lin Daxin and writer Mr. Li Jin; international weight lifting champion Mr.Yuan Aijun; and Mr.Yu Xingzhi and Mr. Chen Laiyuan, prominent Chinese ambassadors – are all among the school’s graduates.
Recently, we established Ming, Li, Da, Yong as the school exhortation and a “responsible education” as the main concept of running the school. With “leader style” education goals and “modern education with good quality and diversity” as the characteristics of running our school, we have strengthened school management and innovatiohus to improve our achievement and reputation. Our achievement in College Entrance Examinations ranks top in Jiangsu Province and every year many excellent students are admitted by famous universities such as Qinghua University, Beijing University, Renmin University, University of Science and Technology of China, Fudan University, the University of HK, National University of Singapore and University of Melbourne. In 2007, Taizhou student Zang Ziyang won the gold medal in the International Chemistry Competition.
The school has hosted delegations from different countries such as the United States, Australia, Japan, Finland and Korea, etc. The school has established friendly cooperation with Traralgon College in Australia. We have already sent and hosted exchange teachers and students regularly between two schools. Taizhou High School has also admitted over 30 students from Korea.
